Introduction
A setting that forgives nothing.
My studio is in the Loire Valley. The Alps are at the other end of the country, and I travel there for couples who have chosen the mountains. I'd rather be straight about it.
I didn't grow up in Savoie and I don't know every chalet in the resorts. What I do know is my craft : natural light, two discreet cameras, a colour grade that lasts. That craft travels. The mountain, though, sets its own rules — and they are better faced honestly before a date is fixed.
The setting
Two weddings in one place.
The Alps offer not one backdrop but two. In winter, it's snow, white summits, light snapping off the powder — a wedding often built around the cold, gondola arrivals, mulled wine. In summer, the same resorts open up differently : green alpine meadows, high lakes, herds, and days that stretch on.
Couples come for Courchevel, Megève, Val d'Isère, Chamonix at the foot of Mont-Blanc, or the shores of Lake Annecy. They are two very different films. First, you choose which one you want to keep.
The approach
How I would film it.
At altitude the light is hard and changes fast. I'd aim for the early and late hours, when the sun catches the ridges at an angle and the valley still holds some shade. At midday, on snow, everything is blown out : not the hour for a couple session.
The cold imposes its own discipline — batteries, condensation, safety. My method doesn't change : no added light, a documentary eye, nothing re-staged. Drones in the mountains are tightly regulated : I am a licensed pilot and only fly with permits in order.
Getting there
Bringing your guests.
The closest airports are Geneva, Lyon-Saint-Exupéry and Chambéry, depending on the resort ; Bourg-Saint-Maurice is the main rail gateway for the Tarentaise valley, with mountain roads beyond. In winter, always plan a margin : here, the weather sets the timetable.

Both film beautifully but are opposite moods. Winter : snow, bright light, cold to manage. Summer : green meadows, high lakes, long days. It depends on the film you want to keep.
